Update: Monkey Attack +

That monkey who bit the toddler in the Brooklyn grocery store apparently has a violent past: the NY Post reports that the menacing macaque "bit 6-year-old Shayna Wasserman in front of her Bergen Beach home in June 2003." The owner was out walking the malicious monkey and his pit bull when the attack occurred.
Young Shayna has the same opinion as the latest victim: "I hate monkeys now." Other neighbors question whether the owner, Steve Seidler, even needs this masticating mammal: "He says he can't reach the shelves in a supermarket, but I've seen him chasing his monkey and chasing his dog down the street."
Maybe part of the problem is that this monkey doesn't look like a monkey. The grandma of the boy bit the other day thought it was a dog, and as the paparrazi-like picture above illustrates, that monkey sure looks like a cat. Perhaps it's benign, domesticated appearance is masking the true nature of this ferocious jungle beast, and young urbanized humans are ill-prepared to deal with such a predator.

Further update (8/5/04): Gothamist summarizes other attacks by this malevolent manimal, and the Daily News notes Seidler has a criminal record for dealing cocaine.
