Skateboarder falls onto manhole cover, is severely burned
Liz Wallenberg was skating by 13th Street and Second Avenue the other night when she hit a bump and toppled onto a ConEd manhole cover. "I noticed it was kind of hot, but I didn't realize how bad it was until my skin started to sizzle," she said later. The cover was so hot, it scorched a clear imprint across her back (pictured above).
The Post repeatedly mentions this occurred just a couple blocks from where a young woman died earlier this year after being electrocuted by a manhole cover. This wasn't lost on Wallenberg either: "They promised they would check everything and fix those problems. And now I have a manhole cover [branded] on my back," she said.
Wallenberg, who also works as a DJ ("DJ L-Train"), has since appeared on NY1, and seems pretty down-to-earth and personable. She says she can't sit or lie down properly, and that she has a lot of tattoos, but didn't really want "ConEd" etched onto her back. I hope she feels better soon.
