Revenge Killing in the Bronx

On July 4th, two men were fighting over a girl. Person A shot Person B. Person C, a close friend of Person B, immediately pulled out a gun and shot Person A. Both victims died at the hospital, and the lone survivor (C) fled in an Acura. Police finally caught up with him and arrested him.

What do you think about such stuff? Should the Person C be charged with a lesser crime than Person A? My instinct sort of says yes, but the law probably would say no.
