More food-related violence: Probation clerk attacks colleague over (and with) cheesecake

Melanie, an employee of the Department of Probation, was having lunch with a co-worker at TGI Friday's when they got into a squabble over a slice of cheese cake. As things escalated, Melanie smashed the cheesecake into her companion's head, and then went after her with a glass, smashing that, too. The victim went to the hospital, and cops later swung by Melanie's office and arrested her.

This is the third* in a recent series of attacks motivated by stupid fights over food. There was the killed-over-soup incident last week, and then the man who attacked his wife over the discarded salad the other day.

As I said in the post about the soup, people seem to forget that they are adults now, and they get themselves into these extremely negative life-altering situations for no good reason, often injuring or killing others along the way. I don't think it's that these people "snap," I think they've just completely lost perspective and are so frustrated, they can't distinguish between appropriate and inappropriate responses to stress and conflict anymore.

Maybe the city should start an anger-management public service campaign, as has been done in schools recently, with some success.
