Felon Almost Sneaks Shank into Court
Francisco Urbina, a convicted drug dealer and robber, showed up at Brooklyn Supreme Court with a 7-inch shank (knife blade) concealed inside a walking stick. A sharp-eyed guard noticed something suspicious in Urbina's manner and examined the cane as it passed through the metal detector. He saw the blade, and Urbina was detained.
Why was Urbina in court to begin with? He works there as part of a work release program. Something seems not quite right about mandating that criminals work around the very people who convicted them, and I guess this incident shows why. Still have doubts? Check out what the guard had to say: "It was a kill weapon...When the person cuts you with it, you bleed to death before the medics get to you." Yikes.
