You Are The Weakest Link

Railways' emergency preparedness off track

"New York's next disaster exercise will be staged a week from Sunday, early in the morning, around the Bowling Green subway station on the nearly deserted southern tip of Manhattan."

Anyone taking bets on this? I wager it won't go well. I've been saying for a long time that the MTA is the weakest link here in the city. I hope they prove me wrong in this drill, but I have a sneaking suspicion that they won't.

"Last year, New York City Transit started providing fire and evacuation training for its 2,900 subway conductors. So far, 302 conductors have been trained."

How long is this training and why is it going so slowly?

"Recent subway fires have exposed numerous problems with the way the transit agency handles emergencies. Failures in communication were documented. Potentially lethal errors were committed by the people in charge."

Which is exactly why I call the subway system the weakest link.
