No(kia), I Won't Give it to You

Shot for his cell phone

"A 26-year-old bicyclist was shot twice on the Williamsburg Bridge yesterday after he refused to hand over his cell phone, police and the victim said."

This happened at 7am. On Easter. Man.

"'Maybe it was the mood I was in, but I thought, He isn't going to shoot me,' Marcin Muchalski said hours later from his Manhattan hospital bed. 'I was kind of stubborn.'"

He tried to do something I always thought made a lot of sense. Reason with a would-be mugger. When I go upstate, I'm always more afraid than I am here in the city. Why? Real darkness, total silence, bears, wolves, and whatever else could possibly eat me. You see, you just can't have a conversation with an unreasonable wild animal. If they're hungry, they'll eat you. That's where Adirondack beasts and New York City muggers differ.

I always figured it was worth a shot to avoid getting shot by leveling with a perp. "Come on, buddy. It's not worth it." Of course, this guy tried to reason with his mugger and it didn't work out. I might have to reconsider my theory.
