More on Melissa Kennedy

Gothamist was kind enough to point to this NYT story: Bard College Student Facing No Charges in Disappearance

"A Bard College student who spent two weeks hiding at a deliveryman's house in the Hamptons while her parents feared her dead will not be charged with any crime, police investigators said Monday."

This whole thing is kind of weird.

"Police officials said that despite the two-week search for Ms. Kennedy costing state, local and Metropolitan Transit Authority investigators a great deal of time and resources, the missing person reports that Ms. Kennedy's parents filed were truthful and there was nothing illegal about Ms. Kennedy's disappearance."

Right. The family has done nothing wrong. I've been reading posts/comments all over the Web with people saying things like, "How could the family waste all of our time? They took up space in the newspapers and on the news."

What? I can't even begin to explain how stupid that is. If you're expecting someone to arrive and they don't for two weeks, I'd wager that you would do the same thing. More, in fact.
