To Get a Bit More Off the Top, City Ends Free Jail Haircuts
"New York City has jacked up property taxes. It has cut fire companies. Now, city officials are zeroing in on what may just be a final frontier of fiscal prudence: inmate haircuts on Rikers Island."
They're going to start charging $2 per cut. Not a bad idea considering Rikers offers 172,000 haircuts a year. Here's an idea to cut the city budget back even more (assuming a corporate sponsor isn't paying the full tab):
* cut the wattage of each light bulb on city bridges by 25 watts.
There would be plenty more ideas from me if I didn't have to look at boring PDF files to come up with them.
