911 a Number of Times
911 glitch killed my dad, says son
"A glitch that downed 911 service for two hours last week was blamed yesterday for the death of an elderly Queens man whose family members say they couldn't get an ambulance after he suffered a heart attack.
"The Friday night snafu, caused by a Verizon engineer making changes at a bank's phone system, may have cost Jasper Grier, 77, his life, relatives said."
Here's another case where the word "snafu" doesn't quite cut it.
"'I think the system failed us terribly,' said Grier's son Glenville Grier. 'When my father collapsed, we called 911 a number of times, over and over again.'"
This shows the importance of knowing the direct phone number for your local police precinct. Find it and write it down.
