"On February 26, 1993, a car bomb was planted by the Islamist terrorists in the underground garage below Tower One. The bomb's fuses burnt at a rate of one inch per two and one half seconds. The men spent 300 United States dollars for the materials to build the bomb."
You could argue that the Global War on Terror began 11 years ago today when "six people were killed and at least 1,040 were injured."
The NYT on the Temporary Shrine to Victims of '93 Trade Center Bombing.
For an interesting read on the '93 WTC attack and terrorism in general, read The New Jackals: Ramzi Yousef, Osama bin Laden and the Future of Terrorism. It's a fascinating read because it was written pre-Sept 11th, so it doesn't have the [I'm having a tough time coming up with a word here] shared experience that most post-Sept 11th books have.
