Trucks, parkways, make for bad
Trucks, parkways, make for bad combo
"Tandem signs posted at every parkway entrance clearly say 'passenger cars only,' but in case the words don't register, a second sign shows a black truck with a diagonal line through it — the universal symbol for 'no trucks.' Yet it still seems that trucks regularly get stuck under overpasses on roads they shouldn't be traveling, often snarling traffic for hours."
Riding along in the backseat as a kid, I used to read those "clearance 9'8''" signs and wonder: 1) Do truckers know how high their trucks are? 2) What would happen if they miscalculated?
This story doesn't really answer either question, but it's still fascinating knowing that trucks really do hit overpasses.
