"Three men floating in an out-of-gas boat underneath the Triborough Bridge narrowly escaped death last night by jumping ship as a barge bore down on them."
The currents there are terrible, hence the name Hell Gate. "Hell Gate is a graveyard for ships and sailors and passengers, its islands the refuge of the wayward and unwanted."
